A few weeks ago I started a DIY Pinterest board where I started pinning ideas for crafts. Yesterday I thought it was about time I made some of them, so I spent about half the day making bracelets. Even got one of my friends to join the craft side. Love craft projects, they let you relax, get away from everything and when you're done you're left with something tangible you can use or give to someone you truly care about (more that half of the things I've made are gifts).

Rene - A fun dining experience
Well what do you know, there seem to be fun new cafes, bars and restaurants sprouting out all over Vilnius :) had the pleasure of visiting one of these unique little restaurants the other week and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. And what an experience it was! You sit at a table that's covered in sketch paper (you know the ones you buy in rolls, a godsend for art students who go through meters of them and don't go broke because of it being cheap) and a tin with pencils, three guesses why? Well to draw of course :) You're waiting for your food and you have that spark of inspiration and you have all you need to create a masterpiece :P Not gonna lie, had some fun with this. The service was very sweet as well, our names were taken and then the 'mailman' left envelopes for us containing our cutlery :)
The menus were also very creatively written made me smile on continuous occasions (sorry that it's in Lithuanian, but ranged from the description of Pepsi being - pipsi, popsi, pupsi to describing potatoes as being made the way grandma used to make them :)
All in all the food was good and well presented, the atmosphere entertaining and inventive. I give it a strong Yes.
Picture attacked my brother drawing a character that was coming after him as I struggled to evade the drawn obstacles... :P

Berry season!
One of the things I enjoy most during the summer is being able to step outside and pick some berries and fruit in our garden. It's raspberry and currant season in our garden now and I spent yesterday afternoon eating handfuls of them. Added some to a meal we are currantly making :P Looking forward to more milkshakes and jam in the future :)

Sunny day in Vilnius
So, it was a beautiful day and I had the strongest urge to go to old town and just walk around, but alas found no one to join me. However, I didn't let that stop me as I set out to play a tourist for the day, walking around taking pictures, basically seeing Vilnius through the eyes of a foreigner. It actually turned out better than I thought it would, I noticed things that I have overlooked on previous occasions, had some time to clear my head and just enjoy the sunshine :) I later did manage to meet up with friends and we enjoyed a refreshing drink.
Swings popping up everywhere |
Vilnius is continuously changing, need more of these walks to discover new places and enjoy my city to its full potential and be ready to show the best places to friends who come to visit from abroad or out of town. Seems I get at least one a year, always happy to take them around, show the sites, share experiences (my subtle way of saying, friends, please come visit me in Vilnius :P)

Let there be (rainy) night
Culture night- a night filled with a heap of events in Vilnius around the summer solstice (the shortest night of the year). We try to make it to it every summer and so this year wasn't an exception. However, about the time the first events started it began to rain. Hard. I'm talking thunderstorm, heavy downpour, even some flooding that prolonged our journey to the city centre due to a car that had somehow managed to flip over in the middle of a giant puddle and blocked the whole road... But nonetheless we made it to old town and tried to make the best out of the situation like the determined people we are.
We started our night at the Irish embassy where they were hosting a short Irish film viewing with refreshments which we took full advantage of, naturally. The films were quite strange, psychological thrillers not all of whose main ideas we were able to understand, but were interesting to watch nonetheless. After we waited out the strongest rain we started to walk around the old town viewing installation displays, taking photos at this door they placed in the middle of the square which captures the moment when you ring it's doorbell, listening to live music, and checking out music and light shows. Unfortunately, many outdoor events did get cancelled so wasn't the best culture night I've been to but, what can you do, there's always next year...
